American musical legend Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural Jr.--along with his band, Buckwheat Zydeco--is the preeminent ambassador of Louisiana zydeco music. 2009 marks Buckwheat Zydeco's 30th anniversary, and Buckwheat is celebrating with the release of his new CD (and Alligator  debut), Lay Your Burden Down.

Produced by Stev! ! e Berlin of Los Lobos, Lay Your Burden Down is the most ambitious, deepest and varied recording of Buckwheat Zydeco's career. Mama Rosin Biography

‘Power trio’ used to imply headbanging rock, leaden lead‐guitar, thrashed bass plus an unfeasibly large
drum kit. But Mama Rosin, the extraordinary Swiss Cajun/Zydeco subversives trash all this with ampedup/
echoed‐up melodeon (Cyril Yeterian), guitar/banjo/rub‐board (Robin Girod) and serious drumming
(Xavier "Gérard Guilain" Bray).

These young rebels live and love the Cajun/Zydeco music style, whose roots go way back to the 18th
century. Cajun music was brought to the South of the United States, to Louisiana, by French immigrants
from Canada, where fast rhythms met slow waltz. Zydeco music added Afro‐Caribbean rhythms. Songs
were sung in French and/or in Creole. The vocals were usually very high and loud so even people at the
back could hear them!

Somehow Mama Rosin found the original soul of Louisiana on the banks of Lake Geneva. Robin Girod
has been playing guitar and banjo as long as he can remember. His teenage years were spent listening to
an enormous amount of music from jazz, to blues, to caribbean, african, and rock’n’roll. Old mate Cyril
Yeterian is obsessed with the various styles of music to be found around the Gulf of Mexico. The third
member of the band, the young drummer ‘Power Van Fischer’ ‐ certainly one of the best female rock
drummers around today – is to be heard on the band’s recordings; recently decided to take a break after
the birth of her first child. She is now replaced with the equally talented French drummer Xavier "Gérard
Guilain" Bray.

The adventures of Mama Rosin began with a demo‐tape recorded and mixed by Pierre Omer (ex‐The
Dead Brothers). Swamped by this intriguing sound "Reverend Beat‐Man" decided to sign the trio to his
cult Voodoo Rhythm Records label straight away. The resulting debut album, Tu As Perdu Ton Chemin
came out in September 2008. The second album, Brule Lentement, followed in March 2009 (both on
Voodoo Rhythm Records), and for the first time these two albums will now available in the UK,
distributed by Cargo UK, and released in March 2010. A third album, Black Robert, was released in
September 2009 in Germany on Gut Feeling Records and hopefully will be released in the UK later this
year (currently available on ‘Import Only’ in the UK).
