BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO - LAY YOUR BURDEN DOWN

American musical legend Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural Jr.--along with his band, Buckwheat Zydeco--is the preeminent ambassador of Louisiana zydeco music. 2009 marks Buckwheat Zydeco's 30th anniversary, and Buckwheat is celebrating with the release of his new CD (and Alligator  debut), Lay Your Burden Down.

Produced by Stev! ! e Berlin of Los Lobos, Lay Your Burden Down is the most ambitious, deepest and varied recording of Buckwheat Zydeco's career. Fusing zydeco's rhythmic energy with rock, R&B and funk, Lay Your Burden Down features five new Buckwheat originals and six complete reinventions of songs by Memphis Minnie/Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, Gov't Mule, Captain Beefheart, Jimmy Cliff, and JJ Grey & Mofro. Guests on the album include Sonny Landreth, Warren Haynes, Steve Berlin, JJ Grey, and Trombone Shorty. Lay Your Burden Down is sure to move your feet, your head, and your heart.

Loco Zydeco Biography

Loco Zydeco is a 6 person, high energy, Canadian Zydeco band, based in Toronto, Ontario. Winning over enthusiastic crowds with an energetic blend of contemporary and traditional Zydeco, LZ has created a unique take on Louisiana's most exciting musical export, in all it's toe-tapping, hip-shaking glory.

LZ's first two albums, "Yeah, you right, eh!" (released independently in the fall of 2003,) and "This Great White North, Eh!" (released by
flamingcheese records in the fall of 2006,) have enjoyed commercial, community and college radio play across North America. LZ’s third album, "Time To Turn The Key," was released by flamingcheese records in October 2008, and has enjoyed both North American & European airplay.

July 12th, 2002, marked LZ’s debut at The Toronto International BBQ & Blues Fest. Since then, LZ has energized audiences and made new fans across Ontario and into Quebec and New Brunswick at festivals in Edmundston, Wakefield, Sault Ste. Marie, Kitchener, Niagara Falls, Port Burwell, Goderich, Minto, Woodstock, Belleville, Orillia, Oshawa, Oakville, Aurora, Port Credit, Burlington, Waterloo, Tecumseth, Sparta and Toronto, (The Toronto Jazz Fest, The Distillery Jazz Fest, Celebrate Toronto, WinterFest & Lakeshore Mardi Gras.)  Electrifying performances have solidified LZ’s reputation as one of Canada’s most entertaining Zydeco bands, with shows often becoming a free for all of audience participation. Extra rubboards are always available for anyone adventurous enough to join the band on stage and upon request, workshops are offered on Zydeco dance or the history of Zydeco, the rubboard, and Zydeco accordion.

LZ also performs at private, corporate, specialty, sporting and Mardi Gras-themed events, as well as clubs and bars. Their set list includes original Zydeco, covers of well-known traditional and contemporary Zydeco and their own Zydeco interpretations of popular songs.
