The Crooked and the Straight - Bravo Johnson We missed
this in 2008, but worth a catch up!

The Crooked and The Straight (Audio CD)

In a world of music taken over by image and production, Bravo Johnson is a refreshing
alternative to all that is mainstream today. The band's influences are very easy to hear.
Immediately, I heard Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and the Allman Brothers.
The music encompasses elements of country, folk, and rock n' roll. The music is very full
sounding with combinations of acoustic and electric guitars as well as organ, bass, and drums.
The songs are based on a moderate tempo, which makes them easy to dance to and easy to sing to.
Bravo Johnson is a band that people of all ages and musical tastes can enjoy.
This band could open up for anyone of either folk, rock n, roll, or country. Courtesy Amazon

5.0 out of 5 stars The Stones at full throttle, October 20, 2011
This review is from: Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas '78 (DVD)
Ronnie Wood still playing guitar like he meant it instead of mugging and posing...... keith looked and sounded good
...... Jagger, well what can you say, talk about the hardest working man in show biz. I was surprised at
how much guitar he played, and not one costume change, how modest. Charlie was on fire, whip crack
energy for the whole show. Bill Wyman looked like it could have been 1969 or 1989, the only thing
moving on him were his fingers but he sure was in the groove. Good to see Stu, and Ian McLagan,
and no brass section was also a surprise, I didn't realize how stripped-down this tour was....
the energy of this concert is amazing..... a performance of this caliber does the band great credit.....
this is a terrific contribution to the Stone's legacy. Courtesy Amazon

This review is from: Comin' Down the Road: The Concert at Royal Albert Hall (DVD)
I own about 200 DVD concerts and this ranks among the best. From the opening new uptempo rocker "Comin' Down the Road" (catchy, instantly likable) to the encore that includes "Travellin' Band", "Rockin' All Over the World" and "Proud Mary" Fogerty belies his age (62 I believe at the time of the show, June 2008). Fogerty is backed by a superb band that includes Kenny Aronoff, arguably the top drummer in rock and roll today - if you need to be persuaded, scroll to "Ramble Tamble", a CCR gem from Cosmos Factory. In addition to CCR standards "Born on the Bayou", Fortunate Son", "Down on the Corner", "Commotion: and "Lookin' Out My Back Door" Fogerty samples great songs from his solo career,
Leonard Cohen shows how he took over the restless, volatile mass of 600,000 and cooly calmed them at The Isle Of Wight festival in 1970. Mesmerising!

Great DVD recorded in 1980 but huge energy overcomes any sound limitations. The songs epitomize "Americana", but injected with very healthy doses of wit and humor. They seamlessly blend, blues, rock, and country.

Simply an awesome display of rock n roll dedicated to Les Paul, and played by a stunning lineup.

This is a document of the only John Lennon Plastic Ono Band performance ever filmed, and it's filmed by legendary documentarist D.A. Pennebaker ("Don't Look Back," "Monterey Pop"). The band of course includes John & Yoko, Eric Clapton, Klaus Voorman (bass) and Alan White (drums). The concert is the same as the "Live Peace In Toronto" CD, but with a different sound source, Pennebaker's stereo recording remixed to 5.1 surround sound.  The performance is rough and raw. Yes, the band only rehearsed together once, acoustically on their flight to Toronto. But it is what it is: one of the few filmed John Lennon performances in existance, at the beginning of his solo career.

Some people *will* find the Yoko portions of this performance unwatchable and unlistenable. If you want some comic relief, watch John & Eric's reactions to Yoko's performances. www.amazon.com

Pretty awesome display by Joe, and great audio mix!
Unquestionably Britain's greatest female vocalist, Dusty Springfield made some of the finest recordings of the sixties. Dusty Springfield: Once Upon A Time 1964 - 1968 features 20 complete songs filmed from 1964 to 1969 and has all of her greatest hits and more. Included on the DVD are her early classics I Only Want To Be With You , Wishin' And Hopin' and I Just Don't Know What To Do With My Self as well as timeless hits Son Of A Preacher Man , The Look Of Love and You Don't Have To Say You Love Me.

In between the performances, Dusty's story is told through new interviews with Burt Bacharach, singer Madeline Bell (who sang back-up for Dusty in the `60s) and Simon Bell (who sang back-up for Dusty from the 70s through the 90s) filmed exclusively for the DVD as well as Dusty herself via a newly discovered, previously unseen biographical interview from 1978. The bonus features include Dusty's complete 1965 and 1966 New Musical Express Poll Winners Concert appearances as well as a duet with Burt Bacharach on A House Is Not A Home. www.amazon.com

This review is from: London Calling: Live in Hyde Park (2 DVD) (DVD)

The first official DVD of an outdoor Springsteen show is by leaps and bounds the best Bruce DVD so far, bootleg or official. The outdoor setting and the gigantic Hyde Park crowd completely change the perspective on the show from any previous DVD...... And so many of Bruce's most loved songs tap into the summer evening vibe that this is the best setting they have ever had. To see Jungleland at dusk sent chills down my spine........ The picture quality, the number of shots, the number of cameras, the number of stage hands and staff, the number of songs, the covers of London Calling and Good Lovin - this is a the first show to capture the sprawling, wild, innocent magnificence of a Bruce Springsteen outdoor show. A very special treasure for Bruce fans........   www.amazon.com

Narrated by Johnny Depp, this is an innovative film with lots of fresh footage on his powerful band.

  Blueray
Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival 2010 showcases some great guitar slinging prowess
Reissue with bonus "Rock N Roll Odyssey" which is a fabulous retrospective with not only plenty of Everly Brothers on camera but Chet Atkins and other legends who influenced and worked with the boys!
2 DVD disc set with concerts from 1976, 1979 and 1991. Excellent value and highlights both his songwriting and guitar playing skills......see why Springsteen likes him in his band!

Mick (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews

This is one of the greatest rock 'n' roll films ever made, performed by, arguably, the greatest rock 'n' roll band ever during, unarguably, their creative peak. Some things not mentioned that really impressed me: Keith, the rock 'n' roller for life, is so into the music that he spends much of his time facing the drums, playing directly to Charlie. Jagger's musical professionalism really stands out. There are many instances where he makes a point of not hogging the limelight when it's the other musicians time to shine. Sometimes it's just by turning his back to the audience during someone's solo. Other times, when the spotlights just don't want to move away from Jagger, he'd move over behind the soloing musician to force the light onto them. When Keith starts singing "Happy", Jagger not only turns his back to the audience, but points a wagging finger at Keith to get the obstinate spot operator to illuminate the right musician. And there was that moment during Bobby Keys' sax solo in "Rip This Joint" where Jagger starts to move away from Keys, but then comes back to adjust Bobby's microphone.......

Taylor's solo during "Love In Vain" proves by itself what a great guitarist he is.....

.......you need to see this movie......

5.0 out of 5 stars Live R.E.M. is excellent as always, December 28, 2010

For the most part, this is a really good performance. But that's all it is: a performance. If you're looking for band interviews or behind the scene extras, look elsewhere. For the most part R.E.M. sticks to themselves and their music, but they do explain the meanings behind a few of their recent songs, and Michael Stipe even invite 2 small kids in the audience to climb on stage. Their music selection is strong, although a vast majority of it is obviously taken from Accelerate, as this was recorded only a few weeks before Accelerate was released........

I was at this concert. It was a one night only, special gig, filmed at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, April 22, 2011.
I expected an amazing show, but even so, had no idea it would be THAT GOOD!!! Lindsey just gets better and better, and this performance far exceeded my already high expectations. It was simply jaw-dropping good!!

Lindsey did NOT disappoint! His voice was in top form - so strong and emotional. His playing...phenomenal as always! This concert will blow you away!

Besides the stunning versions of his new songs, he of course plays some of his hits from Fleetwood Mac, as well as gems from all of his previous albums. He's a master of both electric and acoustic, with a mesmerizing style all his own - and he showcase it all in this beautiful concert. He begins the concert all alone, with just his guitar for the first six songs.

If you love great guitar, great songwriting, or just love a fantastic show put on by a tremendously talented man...you'll want to get this DVD!! Courtesy Amazon
