| By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: The Dreamer (Audio CD) The swan song of aging vocal artists is sometimes pretty thin and often disappointing. Not so this outing by the inimitable Etta James. The vocal register is lower. The pace is slower. But she's still belting out classic jazz and R&B songs to that funky groove that makes you want to rub up against someone. I could wear out a turntable listening to Misty Blue as I did when I was a teenager. Cigarettes and Coffee is paen to the great Otis Redding, but with a vibe that is all Etta. Of 11 tracks on The Dreamer, there's not a weak cut in the bunch. Review courtesy Amazon | |

| 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, March 2, 2011 By blueline 55 "Andy" (USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Space Age Blues (Audio CD) I bought the first Honeytribe CD and thought it was great so I bought the second one. It too is a great CD. Excellent musicianship and production. Well I had the pleasure of seeing Honeytribe in concert this past weekend and all I can say is these 2 CD's do not do the band justice. They were so heavy and intense I couldn't believe it. From the opening song right through to the encore they were smokin' hot and just blew the audience away. Buy the CD's because they are good and you will love them but you have to see Honeytribe live to really appreciate the music. Devon Allman is a very creative and talented blues rock guitarist and he has a very powerful voice. The rhythm section was one of the tightest and innovative I have ever seen........... www.amazon.com
| | 20115.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, October 23, 2011 By Bob B (NH, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Peace Meal (Audio CD) I'd been hearing about Carolyn Wonderland for a couple of years now, mostly via keeping up with the Midnight Rambles, but also on Imus. So, I was very excited when I was able to secure reservations for her latest appearance at Levon Helm's Ramble. |

| One of the greatest hitmakers of the postwar R&B era, Amos Milburn wrote and recorded uproarious odes to sex, booze and all-night partying. It was rock 'n' roll in all but name. Amos rocked the house for the Los Angeles-based Aladdin label right from the beginning. At his debut session in 1946, he waxed a piledriving 'Down The Road Apiece', and he kept the late '40s R&B hit parade jumping with 'Chicken Shack Boogie', 'Roomin' House Boogie' and 'Sax Shack Boogie'. They're all here on 'Amos Rocks,' along with his odes to the bottle, like 'Bad, Bad Whiskey', 'Let Me Go Home Whiskey', and 'One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer' Plus, there's Amos' torrid '56 remake of 'Chicken Shack Boogie' cut in New Orleans with Lee Allen on sax and Earl Palmer driving the drumbeat. Long before Fats Domino or any of his fellow revolutionaries came anywhere near a studio, Amos Milburn rocked! (amazon.com) |
