On September 17, 2008, the legendary Levon Helm took his beloved Midnight Ramble on the road to one of America’s treasured venues, Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. Accompanied by such luminaries as Buddy Miller, John Hiatt, Sheryl Crow, George Receli, Sam Bush and Billy Bob Thornton, the Levon Helm Band created an unforgettable night of stage magic. A CD/MP3 is also available.

Nothing Is Wrong / North Hills - Dawes
4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome album., July 2, 2011
This review is from: Nothing Is Wrong (Audio CD)

Dawes is a great band. One of the few bands keeping my faith in modern music alive. "North Hills" is a classic and "Nothing Is Wrong" stands solidly at its side. "Nothing Is Wrong" has markedly nicer production than "North Hills" and a handful of new classic anthems that will certainly be an important part of the Dawes catalogue for years to come.

Last Great Saturday Night - North Lawrence Midnight Singers
Gee we are really enjoying this, Americana they say, with blends of Rockabilly, Country, R&B Soul, Buddy Holly, Grateful Dead,
Bob Dylan....enjoy! ROR RECOMMENDS!

Alegrias - Howe Gelb & A Band Of Gypsies

The most recent solo project is entitled, Alegrias, by 'Howe Gelb and A Band of Gypsies', was recorded on a roof top in Cordoba, Spain during the last several years. The band is a collection of Andalucian Gypsies featuring guitarist extraordinaire Raimundo Amador, that is, quite frankly, stunning. You gotta check it out!

It's a feel good, lazy summer afternoon cd.  Love

D.B.knows a quite a bit about marketing and getting attention ....his debut album Love Potions and Snake Oil comes in a metal cigar case with a great cover and inside booklet, along with the statement,  "I personally guarantee that if these here concoted remedies fail to eliminate all the trouble and woe that befall man or beast, I'll eat a bug"! So the guy also has a sense of humour....so far so good...and the music within?

Well it's a pretty damn good example of Americana, combining Zydeco, Cajun, Country, Blues into an easy, smooth, tasteful listening experience, that is highly recommended. D.B. sells himself as "American Roots Music", and he clearly has a grasp of the various genres that make up that pot! "Save All Your Kisses" is a gem, leaning towards a pop ballad, but still retaining its roots connections. 4/5 from ROR!
